Wildrose Industries has constructed their first solar farm in Manitou. This 5kW farm is located near the enterance to the inner harbour and the Massey Estate on former residential property. The energy produced will be used to power nearby oil operations and lighting around the Massey Estate historical site.
The Regional Municipality of Manitou has commenced an aggressive program to develop solar power across the city. The panels will be installed on the top of all buildings throughout the Meaford Market Mall and Midland. The energy produced will be used to power street lighting, security lighting, and other auxiliary systems decreasing our dependency on the nuclear facility for power.
Council has been discussing the possibility of returning the city to renewable energy sources and selling the nuclear energy to other cities to generate revenue. If development of 'green energy' proceeds in the city it is expected to cost approximately twenty five hundred prims per region. Council will vote on the motion in June 2017.
