A picture is worth a thousand words and these pictures tell of the great success at our latest Gathering. The Gathering, an informal get-together which has been taking place for approximately a year now, held its first meeting at a special new fireside circle located on Lawson Island on the Minesing region (Manitou) in the Great Canadian Grid.
The Gathering is an opportunity for new and old members to gather together to talk about anything from the weather to grid issues. Once in a while GCG grid owner Roddie Macchi is able to find time in his schedule to attend - this was one of those times.
Roddie talked about the upcoming rate hikes and answered any questions presented from the twenty people who attended this month's Gathering event. This month's Gathering lasted approximately two hours and discussed topics including: rate hikes, copybotting, the new code and upgrades, roleplaying and more.
"The setting could not have turned out better" said Winter Silversmith organizer of the Gathering get togethers and designer of the Lawson Island parcel. "I wanted it to have a real community feeling that didn't feel like we were attending a town hall meeting. A fireside circle in the woods seemed the most Canadian to me, after Tim Hortons of course".
When asked why the venue was changed from Tim Hortons on the GCG Welcome region Winter had this to say "I have actually wanted the gathering to be on my region for some time now. When I first proposed the idea it was to make use of the GCG Cabin but we found the location to be too close to the nearby club. The Tim Hortons was okay but we had a few issues with seating and some attendees wanted to use voice. Since I had no control over either I could not fix the problems as they occurred. I wanted a setting that wasn't official GCG property, a place where people could feel free to speak their mind, and somewhere I could reset scripts or click on or off voice if necessary. The idea of a fireside circle on my region is a perfect venue even in the dead of winter".
Manitou will be closing seven of their eight regions on January 1st 2018 including Minesing region due to the rate hike affecting grandfathered regions. "Yes, the event will continue on my region. I will be setting up a new region in early January and include on it an island for our special new fireside gathering circle. Rest assured the meet and greet event will continue into 2018".
Donations of $Maples are greatly appreciated but not required. Please travel to the Minesing region, gathering fireside circle and find the beaver donation box. Donations are used for fundraising events and landscaping for Manitou regions.
"Thanks to everyone who attended. Thanks to Roddie Macchi for coming and answering members questions. Thanks to Anna Wright, Sabrina Dementos and Lynnestra Parker for providing me with photos" said Winter.
Mark your calendars and join 'The Gathering' group in GCG, the next gathering will take place on: Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 6:00pm GCG time on Lawson Island, Minesing, GCG. Check the group for a landmark or just watch in early October for reminders.
