Today I thought I would write about winter camping. I have actually gone winter camping only once in RealLife, it was about twenty years ago. A friend, his friend and me packed up our vehicles and drove up the Blue Mountains in Ontario. It isn't a real mountain, it is only about 650 metres above sea level (I currently live at 1,300 metres above), but it's the closest thing to one that Ontario has I guess. Anyways, we tromped our way through about a metre deep of snow up to a ridge in a stand of trees. We found our camping spot and while they made the slow return back to the truck for more supplies, I proceeded to dig down through about one and a half metres of snow to make a fire pit. If I remember correctly we only spent a couple nights there at most. It was not overly cold but we just were not prepared for it the way we should have been.
Now, in the Virtual World that is a whole different story. My friend Julie has an exhibit space here on West Manitoulin Island where she sells everything your avatar would need to go camping - in all seasons. Tents, sleeping bags, cooking gear and even a camp fire to keep you warm. I have all of her items in my inventory, they are very affordable and very realistic in design. Her exhibit space is located in the north-east corner of the region. If you arrive at the gazebo walk out to the community square then head north and you will find "Tents & Camping". The best thing about camping in virtual, you can camp year-round without risk of sunburn or frostbite :)
