"We are staying put" that was the word from Silversmith Estates CEO Winter Silversmith earlier today. In his regularly scheduled weekly address Mr. Silversmith stated that the corporation had extended the lease on their regions in Manitou to March fourth of next year. "And in March we will pay another year ahead again" he said.
Manitou regions, in their evolution of themes and numbers, has been in the Great Canadian Grid as long as Mr. Silversmith himself. Winter celebrated his third rez-day on September 9 having been in the grid for two years now.
"It is about providing members with a safe place to call home" Winter said in regards to his regions. "I live on my region so it is my back yard and no one wants a chaotic mess in their back yard".
There has been a lot of discussion lately concerning Podex and it appeared that 'Winter might be getting ready to pack up and leave' sources told the Corran Journal two weeks ago. "It is ridiculous and false" said Winter "I am paid months in advance and I will continue to be. I have stood by Roddie through all the crashes and attacks and issues and I am not about to abandon my Canadian virtual home yet". When asked what would might push Winter to leave GCG he laughed "Well, if the Cabin runs out of Crown Royal Maple then me and Roddie are gonna have words".
"I am concerned that the grid has become too commercialized" Winter said.
A grid that used to boast fifty percent active member numbers has fallen below twenty-five percent in recent months. "People have forgotten that the reason Roddie started the Great Canadian Grid was not to make a quick buck like some of those other guys. He wants the members, including him, to just have fun and make new friends, that's what the GCG is all about." Winter continued, "there were server issues, then the attack, then drama, then more drama, it drove a few people away, some we didn't mind losing and others that we hope come back soon".
In 2014 the grid had 55 regions, in 2015 it exploded to over 500, and topped out just below 1,000 in early 2016. An inconveniently timed DDoS attack led to a 15 to 20 percent decline in numbers for GCG. The statistics page of GCG currently shows 660 actual regions in GCG with 4,908 registered users.
