"Upon further investigation of the personal effects discovered beneath the body investigators with police services are now calling this a homicide" said Police Sergeant Jonathon Steel. "We believe the body is that of Frank Patrick Johnson formerly of Northgate Village. It has been buried in the Silversmith Foothills area for approximately fifty-five years".
While the cause of death has not been determined it would appear that karma finally caught up with the deceased. Frank Patrick Johnson was the undertaker for Northgate Village in the late 1950s. Six months after he disapppeared the undertakers building was demolished. During the demolition of the derelict site crews found eight decomposed bodies of young Caucasian women concealed in a root cellar located off the basement level of the building. The victims died of unnatural causes and it was later determined that the victims were missing persons from other communities. Investigators in 1959 were poised to arrest Mr. Johnson for eight homicides but were unable to locate the suspect. Frank Patrick Johnson was nicknamed the 'Northgate Killer' and was Manitoulin's first and only serial killer.
The identification of the body discovered last fall was delayed when an early harsh winter closed down the excavation site. Wesley Ferguson of the University of Western Metaversia was called in last October to excavate the site and, at the time, did not believe foul play was involved. "We weren't able to determine the cause of death from the remains last fall. We have since found a wallet and other effects under the body preserved by the surrounding soil and called the authorities back in. The skeleton has been sent to the regional medical examiners office for an autopsy" said Mr. Ferguson. "This may finally put to rest the eight victims of Johnson however now we have to find out how his body ended up in the foothills" said Sergeant Steel.
