"The new walls will decrease the risk of flooding during storm surges and incoming watercraft" said Bill D'Rite Manager Manitou Public Utilities. "The main channel into the harbour was rapidly degrading from the increased cargo ships arriving in the harbour and we had to do something before Mud River ended up under water" Mr. D'Rite told the Corran Journal this morning.
The municipality has constructed new ocean wave break walls west of Meaford and Massey regions and new barrier walls are being constructed along the main river in Mud River and Minesing. The project commenced as soon as the weather improved and is expected to take one week to complete at a cost of only two hundred prims. "This new effort will help to protect our citizens and our shorelines" said CAO Winter Silversmith during a tour of the new wall in Meaford.
