The planned project for expansion has been approved. Manitou Armed Services Air Force division has constructed a new runway and support infrastructure behind the Emergency Operations Centre in Muskoka district. "The new airstrip is for military use only and a no-fly zone will be announced this week" said Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Alberta spokesperson for the Manitou Armed Services.
The new runway is 158 metres long by 20 metres wide and will handle light aircraft and fighter jets from Canada and our allies. "We are still considering a navy yard but there is not enough money in the budget to justify a full region with no revenue base right now" the Colonel said.
