Rental fees coming to Manitou, that was the word from Manitou Tourism CAO Winter Silversmith this morning. "We are introducing rent and group liability fees to our members beginning January 1, 2017. I spent the last two months considering rental fees and I've decided on this new hybrid rental system to introduce it to Manitou residential and commercial units". The city of Manitou is managed by Manitou Tourism and owned by Silversmith Estates.
Winter described the yearly budget to the Corran Journal "There are seven regions in Manitou at a cost of $406.80 per year [approximately MC$73,000], there are two websites valued at $25 per year [approximately MC$4,500], and we've been spending over MC$75,000 on Kitely and inworld purchases. This is a total expenditure of about MC$152,500. We greatly appreciate tips and donations from our renters and visitors unfortunately the total donations Manitou received in 2016 came to only about MC$18,000."
The new Manitou regions rental system is described below and can be found on the Manitou Tourism website.
How renting works in Manitou regions -
We have decided to introduce weekly rent and liabilities to help support our C$150,000 per year budget.
If you had a residential or commercial rental before December 31, 2016 you will continue to be weekly rent-free provided you remain an active renter and comply with the Covenant.
If you moved to the new Meaford Market Mall in 2017 all of the new Meaford Market Mall group members (including those who were in the Studio City Manitou group) will pay group liabilities fee (this may or may not be charged by the system but it is usually just a small amount of Maples per time).
If you had a commercial rental before December 31, 2016 you will not pay actual weekly rent in the new mall unless you have failed to respond to the "recall of our merchants" requests by the deadline or you move out or you are evicted and want to return - then you will be subject to the new weekly rent.
The "recall of our merchants" period will officially end on January 6, 2017, after that you will pay weekly rent as a new merchant would.
We have decided to charge the following rates in 2017:
Large stores MC$75 / week 750 prims
Small stores MC$50 / week 500 prims
Kiosk stands MC$15 /week 150 prims
What we have available is what we have. We will not add stores or stand spaces just so you can rent. Do not harass or pressure our renters to move out just so you can rent the space either - this will get you publicly banned from the city.
We have started charging rent on residential units that were vacant on January 1, 2017. For 1,000 personal prims the rent will be MC$100 per week.
If you had a residential rental before December 31, 2016 you will not pay actual weekly rent unless you move out or you are evicted and want to return - then you will be subject to the new weekly rent.
