Manitou Fire Crews that responded to the structural fire on Sawney Close today were hampered by a lack of accessibility to the site and services. "This city is like a giant matchbox" said one individual who requested to not be identified "we have no roads so the fire trucks can not get to most of the homes here".
When asked about the access to fire services in Manitou Fire Chief Red E'Lite had this to say "well, it is true we don't have roads to get fire trucks down but the city has a lot of fire hydrants we just have to work harder to get to them on foot".
The CAO of Manitou Tourism Winter Silversmith was not available for comment. The issue of substandard fire services has been brought before municipal council in the past and at that time Mr. Silversmith stated that a major overhaul would be required to construct more roads throughout the city "it would cut into residential parcels and cost thousands of prims it's not just an overnight fix".
The fire on Sawney Close destroyed a cafe and bookstore, it was brought under control in about one hour. The area remains closed including the nearby Manitou Archives of the Avatar building while fire and police services are on scene investigating the cause. Fire Services Chief Red E'Lite stated that the concerns over fire services accessibility will be brought before council later this month.
