The construction of the new Manitou Tourism Community Arena is well underway in the community of Mud River. The Arena District will include the new arena, parking, a new street connecting us to northern regions and there are proposals in the works for high rise developments in the near future. The budget for the new Arena District is 2,500 prims. Bill D'Rite Foreman for Manitou Tourism construction stated that the current prim count is around 456 "We're well under budget however there is much detail still to be included in the arena including seating" he said.
The new arena has been constructed on former residential zoned parcels in the community of Mud River. Mud River, a part of the Regional Municipality of Manitou, is best known for being home to the only nuclear plant currently located in the Great Canadian Grid. Mud River is located west of Mattawa Bay which is a nature preserve and recreational area for members. "We're currently identifying the areas we can build on without any significant impact to the environmentally protected area to the east" said Winter Silversmith CAO Manitou Tourism. "We might end up relocating the Storm Shelter back to the Meaford Market Mall and building a highrise on that parcel" he continued "we have to discuss the matter further with the Mud River Generating Station to see how close a multi-storey residential complex can be built to their plant".
The new arena and district is expected to take one week to complete at a cost up to 2,500 prims.
